As a sustainable seaweed skincare brand, we fight the common problem that the beauty industry has; plastic consumption and waste. Even though we do our part as use 100% recycled plastic, glass containers and encourage our clients to recycle. We still ask ourselves the question:
COULD we be doing MORE.
And that is how ALGAEE REFILL started. This is us doing more.
As a Kenyan Seaweed Scientist and founder of a cosmetics company I realised we can use seaweed, plant waste, locally sourced Kenyan ingredients to make biodegradable cosmetic bioplastics.
We aim to use our designs for our own products as well as sharing these with the cosmetic industry so they too can join the global movement on reducing plastic consumption and waste.
Material Development
Using three main main ingredients : Seaweed, Cassava and Sisal we have developed several adaptable bio-materials
Material Specs:
Clear Seaweed Bioplastic (1) : Water proof, compostable , very strong, form as inner lining of our packaging,
Clear Seaweed Bioplastic (2): Soluble in water, flexible, cling film appearance and printable. Designed for our soap wraps
Outer Cassava Sisal Bioleather : Water proof , compostable , very strong , serve as outer layer for our packaging.
